Joana Claverol

Joana Claverol, MSc, is the Clinical Research Director at Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital (Spain), where she has led the Clinical Trials Office since 2012 and the Patient Engagement in Research area since 2015. She also plays a key leadership role in the strategic development and implementation of Advanced Therapies initiatives, positioning the institution at the forefront of innovation in gene therapy, cell therapy, and other advanced medicinal products.

Under her leadership, the Clinical Research Unit has become a national and international reference center for pediatric clinical research, with a strong focus on the development of innovative therapies for highly complex conditions, particularly rare pediatric diseases. She brings over 13 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, with deep expertise in drug development, clinical trial design, and the regulatory and methodological frameworks governing clinical research.

She has extensive experience in advancing research in rare diseases, contributing to the design and execution of cutting-edge clinical trials in the pediatric setting, and fostering multidisciplinary and patient-centered approaches to accelerate access to innovative therapies.

She holds a Senior Management Program certificate in Health Institutions from IESE Business School, a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Marketing from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, a Master’s degree in Clinical Trials from the Universitat de Barcelona, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
